Janice Stern, ARNP

Janice Stern, ARNPJan is a psychiatric nurse practitioner with over 13 years of experience  working with adults who have a wide range of psychiatric conditions.  Her holistic approach to patient care comes from her training and  extensive work as a registered nurse. She received a Registered Nurse  diploma with honors in 1974 at the St. Luke’s School of Nursing in  Fargo, North Dakota, and a Bachelors Degree in Nursing in 1997 from the  University of Washington in Bothell. She earned her Master Degree in  Nursing in 1999 with faculty honors from the University of Washington in  Seattle. She completed the expanded role in psychiatric nursing program  that provided the groundwork for her practice that provides psychiatric  care that is coordinated with medical care. She has also earned the  Neuroscience Education Institute certificate as a Master  Psychopharmacologist.

Her experiences as a psychiatric nurse  practitioner include having worked in urban and rural community mental  health centers, the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Healthcare System PTSD  clinic, an opiate replacement clinic, and as a consultant to primary  care providers and specialty care clinics. She has also worked in  private practice. She has been a guest educator for the University of  Washington School of Nursing and she has hosted many learning seminars  for primary care providers.

Jan has a special interest in  diagnostic clarification. She believes that getting a good understanding  of problems to be addressed is important in selecting the most  effective treatments. She works in partnership with her patients and  other treating clinicians to provide information and select  evidence-based medication and other complimentary treatments that  relieve symptoms and improve function.
